As shown in the graph above, emission from both the blue and red light sources overlap the standard eye response. Either will stimulate the rod-cone photoreceptor pathway.
There is virtually no output from the hyper red source within the absorption spectra of the melanopsin pathway. Only the blue source will elicit a melanopsin mediated PLR.
APPLICATIONS
Lo Blue: Fluorescein eye test for detecting injuries or abnormalities on the surface of the cornea.
Hi Blue: PLR testing the melanopsin pathway.
Blood detection.
Lo Red: Darkroom spot illumination.
Hi Red: PLR testing the photorecptor path.
